Hello Galena! News: Released April 15

Hello Galena!, a local artist co-op, has a seldom-experienced, mixed-emotion function. In remembrance of beloved artist Zelma Clark and at the request of her family, never seen and some uncompleted works by Clark will be on display and available for purchase at the shop. See the art and celebrate the life of Clark during the month of May at 121 N. Commerce Street, Galena.

Clark's work includes landscapes, portraits and abstracts in a variety (and sometimes combination) of media, such as charcoal, pastel, ink, oil, acrylic, watercolor and gouache. She was interested in still life and floral compositions. For paintings of landscapes, Clark first sketched on location and finished the work in her studio on North Bench Street.

Drawing the human figure and obtaining the essence of a figure in a single line was one of Clark's artistic endeavors. She drew with direct observation of a model as she strove for vitality in simplicity of line.

Clark majored in design and fine arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She took night school classes in advertising design at the Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Clark worked in the Chicago graphic design industry. She and her husband Richard moved to Galena more than 35 years ago. He continues to live in the area after her death.
